The troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, having gone on the offensive from the bridgeheads on the western bank of the Oder, with the support of massive artillery and air strikes, broke through the heavily fortified, deeply echeloned German defenses that covered Berlin from the east, advanced from 60 to 100 kilometers, captured the cities of Frankfurt - on the Oder, Wandlitz, Oranienburg, Birkenwerder, Hennigsdorf, Pankow, Friedrichsfeld, Karlshorst, Köpenick and broke into the German capital Berlin.
To commemorate the victory, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the battles during the breakthrough of the German defenses and the attack on Berlin were presented for awarding orders.
Today, April 23, at 9 pm, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, including the 1st Polish Army of Lieutenant General Poplavsky, who broke through to Berlin, with twenty artillery volleys from two hundred twenty-four guns.
For excellent military operations, I express gratitude to the troops led by you who participated in the battles during the breakthrough of the German defenses and the attack on Berlin.
Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
